Reporting to: Student Services Manager
Position: The post holder will be expected to be supportive of the Student Services Manager in the creation of a happy, safe and stimulating environment, caring for the general health, good discipline and pastoral welfare of the students and the organisation of the Residence and its resources. Above all and in every circumstance, the post holder would be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of the young people in their charge.
Person Specification: Prior experience in a similar role – for example summer school teaching, supervisory or residential work – would support a candidate’s application. The candidate would be able to follow the routines established by the SLT to ensure the Residence is a happy, homely safe environment. To ensure the physical and emotional welfare of the students by developing supportive, positive relationships with them. To respect the dignity of each individual, and have regard for the school’s boarding statement and vision. To respect the confidentiality of any information with which you may become acquainted. To supervise meals and ensure dining room is left clean and tidy. To undertake any other reasonable duties requested in the interest of the Residence and School.
Competence and Qualities: This offer would suit an enthusiastic newcomer to houseparenting as much as a more experienced candidate (for example, previous houseparenting or teaching assistant experience). The role can be very demanding and it is crucial that the candidate has a keen interest in working in education with young people in order to be able to meet the day to day challenges of working in a busy, educational environment.
